The Best of Web 1.0

Is web 1.0 dead? Far from it, today I will run down what, in my opinion, is the best Web 1.0 has to offer.

Imageshack.us:As of late, you don’t hear much about photo-hosting services if they aren’t flickr or photobucket. Imageshack provides fast, easy uploading, and linking to any image you need hosted. Theres no ajax here (yet), but it still somehow manages to get the job done.

Fark.com: You could argue that Fark isn’t even quite up to Web 1.0 yet, more like Web 1.0 RC1. Even still, theres no better destination for off-beat news, Photoshop contests, and lots of liberal bias. (Hate mail here)

Drudgereport: Matt Drudge always manages to be johnny-on-the-spot with breaking news. Maybe he’s causing the news, or maybe he’s just making it up, either way, be sure to check out the site the first broke the Lewinsky scandal. No ajax or flashy designs here.

Craigslist: Craigslist really is a gem on the web. It has something for everybody. From rants and raves that will leave you laughing hysterically (or creeped out), to used cars and second-hand mattresses, Craigslist is truly unique. Don’t look for any of them new fangled designs here, though, Craig doesn’t even use images.

Maddox: "The Best Page in the Universe" I don’t know about that, but this site is definitely Web 1.0. With its circa-1996 design, and strange onhover navigational bar, don’t look for Maddox to be winning any design awards anytime soon. Even so, hilarious posts, well worth a visit.
